Maxine is an unincorporated, heavily wooded rural locality situated along the Locust Fork of the Black Warrior River west of Bessemer. Formerly an active coal mining outpost, the area is now characterized by sprawling properties, river camps, and scenic river bluffs. Visitors generally pass through for fishing, boating, or exploring rural Jefferson County backroads.
